It Started with a Simple Connection
Two Ripples began with a simple request.
Before I started teaching, a small group of high school volunteers had been providing English lessons to teachers at Anna School in Cambodia through a volunteer program connected with the school. As those students graduated and moved on to college, the lessons gradually came to an end.
One of the former volunteers asked if I would be willing to continue working with the teachers he had been teaching. That introduction became the beginning of my weekly English lessons with Anna School.
I had tutored younger students in subjects such as English and math before, but teaching adults was completely new to me. At first, I followed the approach that had already been used, focusing mainly on English pronunciation and reading.
Learning How to Teach by Listening
As I continued teaching each week, I began to understand more clearly where my students struggled and what they wanted to learn.
I realized that pronunciation and reading practice alone were not enough. They needed lessons that connected vocabulary, grammar, reading, speaking, and everyday communication in a more structured way.
So I began creating my own lesson materials based on their level and needs. Each week, I continue to revise and develop the lessons based on what I observe during our classes—what works, what causes confusion, and what helps make English easier to understand and use.
Teaching has also become a learning experience for me. It has taught me to listen more carefully, see things from another person’s perspective, and continually look for clearer and more effective ways to communicate.
That shared process of learning and growth became the idea behind Two Ripples.
Growing Beyond the Weekly Lesson
Over time, I learned that there were also students at Anna School who wanted more opportunities to learn English.
That inspired me to create Two Ripples as a place where learning can continue beyond our weekly classes. Students and teachers can return to previous lessons, practice with worksheets, explore English reading materials appropriate for their level, and study independently whenever they have the opportunity.
My hope is to make English learning more accessible by providing simple, practical resources that learners can return to at their own pace.
WHY “TWO RIPPLES”?
A ripple begins small, but it doesn’t stay small.
Two Ripples represents the idea that teaching and learning are never one-directional. Each person brings different experiences, knowledge, and strengths. When those experiences meet, both people can learn, adapt, and grow.
Two Ripples started with one connection between two people. My hope is that each lesson, resource, and shared experience can create another ripple—and allow learning to travel a little farther.

ABOUT ME
Hi, I’m Jane.
I’m a high school student in Las Vegas with interests in medicine, education, and community service.
I started teaching English online as a way to continue a small volunteer effort connecting students in the United States with teachers at Anna School in Cambodia. What began as a weekly lesson has become one of my own learning experiences as well.
Through teaching, I’ve learned that helping someone understand something requires more than knowing the answer. It requires listening, recognizing where someone is struggling, and finding a different way to explain when the first approach doesn’t work.
Two Ripples is where I continue that process—creating, testing, improving, and sharing resources as I learn alongside the people I teach.
